The end of the semester is only a couple weeks away, which means the end of the year festivities are about to begin! And of course, like any fashionista, I have a full closet yet nothing to wear. This is where my idea to refine my wardrobe and get back to my minimalist roots was born. I have always been obsessed with clean lines, b&w, and heavy contrast. I’ve seen my wardrobe slowly develop into a sea of neutrals. So why can I not find a single outfit? I never thought the words would come out of my mouth but the answer is simple: I have too much clothing. After spending hours doing laundry and putting clothing away (okay, maybe just doing laundry) to find a glimpse of hope for an outfit.. Instead I found myself ready for some change. How can I have a minimalist wardrobe if I don’t have a small amount of clothing?
I took one last look at my closet, let out a sigh and got ready to say goodbye to pieces that have been in my wardrobe for far too long. If you’re anything like me, I build some kind of attachment to each piece of clothing that I buy. So where do I start? After scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration for my revamped style, I came across the most handy diagram I have ever found. It was titled “Closet Detox” and contained the very questions I needed to ask myself in order to let go of my overstuffed closet.
I went through piece by piece, responding with yes’s but much more no’s. Items that were worn out, over used, and damaged were tossed right into the “No” pile and I saw my closet start to shrink. Usually I would panic, but this time I felt confident that what I was getting rid of were items that would never get any more use. So for any ladies that need a Spring Cleaning starting point, look no further! Your closet (and your laundry basket) will look a whole lot less scary once you being to minimize your wardrobe! Plus, who needs three white v-neck tops with yellow arm pit stains? Not me (anymore)!
